Keep your long term goals in mind while submiting to Directories says Praveen Kumar of www.linkcabin.com

Thursday, August 31st, 2006

Praveen Kumar, a Post Grad in Internet Technologies, has been designing websites from 2000 and own close to 20 odd websites. Currently, he is working as the Web Marketing Manager for Broadspire India.

The directories owned by Praveen are:

Link Cabin: www.linkcabin.com
BIG Directory: www.thebigdirectory.org
Submit URL: www.submiturlhere.com
King of URL: www.kingofurl.com
Webmasters Cavern: www.webmasters-cavern.com/dir/
URL Shack: www.urlshack.com
Best Sports Directory: www.bestsportsdirectory.com
Koopy! www.koopy.org

Here is what Praveen had to say, when Submit2Please.com cought up with him.

What sets you apart from other directories?

Unique Design (All my directories have their own unique templates), Good popularity and listed with many of the top SEO directory lists.

How do you evaluate a site? Can you please share some of the factors which people should bear in mind so that there site is not rejected by you?

There are a lot of various different factors.

• Design
• Content
• Amount of Ads – if the page(s) have way too much ads, then it’s a straight forward reject.
• Affiliate Links – there are many websites who mask their affiliate links in checkout buttons etc..

I always check atleast 2-4 pages in any given website. All things said, each Directory owner has his/her own evaluation method.

Can people submit their website to your directory for free? How long will your directory remain free?

Yes, they can. Apart from linkcabin.com and thebigdirectory.org the other directories are free.

How long they will remain free? Well I always believe that good things are free. So they will remain free for the foreseeable future.

What if after inclusion in your directory, a site changes radically? Is there some kind of detection process in place to prevent deception?

At this moment there is no detection process simply because of the volume of submissions each day. All my directories use the Popular PHPLD script and I am sure David and his team will come up with something.

In the recent PageRank update by Google, some of your directories were one of those few sites whose PageRank rose in their PR! As per you, what are the possible reasons for this big leap?

Number of incoming links and constant promotion of them!!

What do you think is more effective Niche directories or general directories?

It depends on the person starting a directory. As I said in a discussion thread in DP, there are many food outlets which basically do the same thing i.e. serve food. What you do to your directory to set it apart from others matters most.

A General directory gets submissions and also some amount of paid listings faster.

A niche directory needs time, patience and if you have these two, you can be successful. But I must stress patience is the key.

Many of our visitors are concerned about their Google Rankings. Do back links from Search Engine Friendly Directories act as a valuable thing in this regard?

Yes they do!

If you had to spend money on Paid Directories, which directories will be your first choice?

Alivedirectory
Umdum
Sevenseek
Bluefind
BOTW
Skaffe
WOW…

To name a few

Why do some directories have free submission and others have a fee?

It depends on the Directory Owner and their plans with the directory

Many of our visitors believe that submitting to PR 0 directories would impact their PageRank adversely? Should anyone submit to a directory which is PR 0?

What is PR0 can be PR8-9 tomorrow. So yes, submit it. Keep your long term goals in mind.

Do you have any specific message for our visitors?
Never Spam any of the directories. Always follow the submission guidelines of each Directory. Submit to the most relevant category and only Once.

And Good luck with your websites.

Don’t try to Advertise while submitting to directories cautions Francois Panassac of AllTheWebmasters.com

Monday, August 21st, 2006

Francois Panassac, Owner of AllTheWebmasters.com, Aroundirectory.com & many other Search Engine Friendly Directory, has been working as a professional on Internet for about 2 years now. After doing his Masters from France, he spent sometime in Ireland, developing softwares in asp and asp.net and also managing Wireless networks. He moved back to France to set up his own company called Creascripts.

Recently, Submit2Please.com had an opportunity to speak to Francois & unearth, what makes his directories so popular & special. Here are excerpts from our conversation with him.

Please tell us something about your directory

I own many popular directories including www.allthewebmasters.com created in early 2005.

This directory was free for about 2 months but is fee based now.

I then created 11 other directories and added a special package which allows people to submit their listing only once and get listed in all 12 directories. The average PR of these directories is 4 and many sub-pages pass PR. They are all created with Creadirectory and I keep testing it with new evolution of my script on these directories.

So, what sets you apart from other directories?

The thing which set my directories apart is the fact that they are always evolving. I keep adding new features every month. I also promote them actively.

Can people submit their website to your directory for free?

No, none of my directories are free now. It was taking me too much time to maintain a free directory. I also invest the money earned to promote these directories so people get benefited from them!

But, why do some directories have free submission and others have a fee?

I would say that directories offering free submission are the one which can propose other products and want to attract visitors. It’s quite hard to have a free directory over a long period of time because you get many more submissions and it requires much more time. Put your directory as paid is a good thing if you have good traffic, a good Page Rank and if your directory already has many listings in it.

But you need to be attractive if you want people to pay a fee to get listed.

Can you share some of the factors which people should bear in mind so that there site is not rejected by you?

While submitting their site, webmasters should try to be as much explicit as possible when describing their site. They shouldn’t try to advertise too much and most of all, should try to tell the truth!

What if after inclusion in your directory, a site changes radically? Is there some kind of detection process in place to prevent deception?

I usually check my directories every 3 months with a spider which let me know if a site has gone down or changed.

In the recent PageRank update by Google, some of your directories were one of those few sites whose PageRank rose in their PR! As per you, what are the possible reasons for this big leap?

Google is now looking at quality directories. They changed their algorithm to reduce spam directories. The fact that I evaluate each listing submitted in my directory is probably one of the main reasons why Google put a better note to my directories.

Many of our visitors are concerned about their Google Rankings. Do back links from Search Engine Friendly Directories act as a valuable thing in this regard?

Yes many of my customers saw a big increase in their Google Rankings only by submitting their website to my directories. Not all directories as good though. Take time to check if you have a direct link to your site and if it’s not a spam directory.

If you had to spend money on Paid Directories, which directories will be your first choice?

My best directories would be Yahoo! Directoy, Uncoverthenet, JoeAnt and Goguides.org

Are there any web directory or “Spam Directory” we should stay away from?

I don’t have a list here but there are many.

Many of our visitors believe that submitting to PR 0 directories would impact their PageRank adversely? Should anyone submit to a directory which is PR 0?

I do submit my sites to PR0 directories as they are usually free directories and might get a PR boost in the next Google update.

What are your future plans with regards to your directory?

Future plan would be to get better PR by promoting them even more and add new features.

Finally, Your message for our visitors?

The only message I would like to bring is that you need to be consistent if you want your directory to work. Creating a successful directory takes time and you need to keep your motivation over at least 6 months to get good results. Once you have passed this first step try to build new interest for visitors by adding new features and by promoting your directory.

On behalf of our visitors, we would like to Thank Francois Panass for taking some time out to speak to us & sharing your experiences!

Directory submission is the most effective way to obtain a good PR feels Brian Petersen of Listsinfo.com

Monday, August 7th, 2006

Brian Petersen, Owner of ListsInfo.com, has been working as a professional on Internet for about 10 years now! His main focus nowadays, along with LisitsInfo.com is on consulting and affiliate business.

Recently, Brian took some time out to talk to Submit2Please.com. Here are excerpts from our conversation with him.

Tell us something about ListsInfo.com

www.listsinfo.com started as a hobby project – My idea was to start the directory as a paid and reciprocal directory – many directories start as free directories, and after they obtain enough links, they change to paid mode.

So my idea was to see if it was possible to obtain a decent Google PR based on back links primary from other directories – and with a PR 4 after only a few month I think mission is accomplished.

My goal is to get a PR 6! And a lot of paid submissions!

What sets you apart from other directories?

ListsInfo.com focuses on quality – I am not interested in quantity but quality links.

I also continue to work on the SEO process to get a higher PR – thus driving more traffic to the members already listed in the directory.

In the recent Page Rank update by Google, your directory was one of those few sites whose Page Rank rose from PR 0 to PR 4! As per you, what are the possible reasons for this big leap?

The short answer: Quality back links from other directories.

How do you evaluate a site? Can you please share some of the factors which people should bear in mind so that there site is not rejected by you?

First of all I look at the overall impression of the site –What exactly the site is about? And does it bring any value to the visitor?

If the site goes for a free reciprocal inclusion I pay attention to the page where the site owner has put my link – if the site looks like a link farm with more than 30 links a page, and the site in general has a low PR I would not accept the submission.

- Or if the webmaster doesn’t even spends a few seconds to submit to a proper category (or suggest a new one).

Can people submit their website to your directory for free? How long will your directory remain free?

The directory is only free with a reciprocal link in return – I don’t have plans to change that policy.

But why are some directories like yours, have paid submissions and while others have free?

Most directories start as free directories – when they start to look as a real directory with several links and a good Google PR they change to paid mode.

The reason is that a link back from a site with high PR, is interesting for any webmaster. So a link from a site with high PR is worth money.

Many of our visitors are concerned about their Google Rankings. Do back links from Search Engine Friendly Directories act as a valuable thing in this regard?

Indeed – as long as you make sure to submit your site in the most appropriate category.

A link is like a vote for your site – and a link from a high PR page is counted as a more important vote by the search engines. In other words if a good site points on your site, this helps to improve your Rankings as it is counted as very relevant and important by the search engines!

- That’s why many webmasters go for a Dmoz.com inclusion.

What if after inclusion in your directory, a site changes radically? Is there some kind of detection process in place to prevent deception?

I sometimes randomly pick some sites for a second review, and all reciprocal links are checked on a regular basic.

If a site have changed to a different topic or a does not offer a reciprocal link, the site is disabled.

What do you think is more effective Niche directories or general directories?

In my experience all directories are effective – provided they are well structured and do not put too many links on one page.

Every category in a directory is a sort of niche – so search engines would register the sites included as “on topic” – I guess that’s why most webmasters, who run a directory, make sure that every site is included is in the most appropriate category.

If you have to spend money on Paid Directories, which directories will be your first choice?

I would spend my money on Microsoft Small Business Central, sbd.bcentral.com. They got a great PR on there site and you get several links from pages with high PR.

dir.yahoo.com is good too – but its too expensive (I suggest you use your money smartly and buy inclusion in cheaper directories with a PR 6-8).

Is there any web directory or “Spam Directory” we should stay away from?

My best advice is to look for the age of the directory, the Alexa traffic rank and the Google PR.

After have a look at the directory in general – Is it SEO friendly? How many links pr. Page? How are the categories structured?

- Many webmasters go only for submission in directories with high Google PR – and that’s wrong in my opinion – a well structured directory could obtain a good PR in short time (just like www.listsinfo.com), so it would be a good idea to get a free inclusion before the webmaster switches to “paid inclusion mode”.

Talking about PR 0 directories, many of our visitors believe that submitting to PR 0 directories would impact their Page Rank adversely? Should anyone submit to a directory which is PR 0?

If the directory is well designed – GO FOR IT!, you can also run a check on the search engines to see how many back links point to the directory – that would indicate if the directory would get an improved PR at the next Google update.

My directory www.listsinfo.com had a PR 0 the first couple of month and got a PR 4, so that would not harm any of the sites included!

What are your future plans with regards to your directory?

I will continue the SEO process and get even more back links, and go for a PR 6!
That would bring more traffic and paid inclusion – and hopefully some revenue from the Google Ad sense program.

Finally, your message for our visitors.

If you work seriously with SEO it’s a must to get quality back links – web directory submission is the most effective way to obtain a good PR fast and easy.

It takes time to make all the manual submissions. But if you want to save time and make sure the work is quickly but effectively, fast I recommend www.submit2please.com

We would like to thank you on behalf of our visitors, for taking time out of your busy schedule & speaking to us! We wish you & your directory all the very best!
